We are very proud to announce the performance of Mulatu Astatke, the pioneer of Ethio-jazz. With his unique blend of traditional Ethiopian music, jazz, and Latin influences, Astatke will hypnotise the audience and take them on a musical journey through his fascinating world of sounds and rhythms.
Carista, the dynamic Utrecht DJ with Surinamese roots, brings her distinctive style of house, soul, and techno to the festival. Her energetic sets are a guarantee for an unforgettable dancing experience that sets the night ablaze.
Moreover, Moor Mother, the American poet and musician, will present her powerful and emotional mix of spoken word, free jazz, and noise. Her performances are profound and immersive, highlighting important social and political themes.
The soulful sounds of Thee Sinseers & The Altons bring a modern twist to classic soul. This band is known for their authentic sound and their ability to touch the audience with timeless melodies.
Emerging artists like Rolrolrol, corto.alto and August Charles bring a fresh breeze to the festival. Rolrolrol, the new project by Jameszoo and Niels Broos, surprises with their experimental beats, while corto.alto pushes the boundaries with his fusion of electronic and acoustic music. August Charles delivers his soulful voice and penetrating lyrics, which resonate with the audience.
BIRDfest 2024 also works intensively with The Nest, an initiative focused on nurturing local talents. In the new musical incubator of BIRD, young talents embark on a seven-day musical journey where they exchange ideas and visions, refine their artistic direction (also in collaboration with mentors) and make music. The result of their work is showcased at BIRDfest, by our partners North Sea Round Town and Super-Sonic Jazz, and for the past two years at the Open Stage of the North Sea Jazz Festival.
Don't miss this chance to be part of a musical adventure that brings the best of the world to Rotterdam. Tickets are now available through the official BIRDfest website. Be quick, as the tickets are selling fast!
