Joyce Moreno returns to Rotterdam on 18 November at LantarenVenster. This is one you want to catch.
A true legend from Rio. She blends traditional Brazilian music with jazz and other influences into a sound that feels natural and unmistakably her own. This time she brings music from her new album O Mar é Mulher, alongside classics like Feminina and Água e Luz.
Joyce started in the late ’60s and built a career that runs deep. She’s from Rio and has been shaping Brazilian music for decades. Wrote hundreds of songs, worked with names like Elis Regina, Gal Costa and Milton Nascimento. Her voice and artistic choices were never safe, some of her work was even banned during Brazil’s military regime. That edge still runs through her music. You’ve probably heard her music before, even if you didn’t realise it.
She has played Rotterdam before and fits right into the sound we stand for with BIRD Rotterdam.
This is a seated show. You listen, you take it in. If you’re into real music, this is it.
