BIRDsessions: DEBORAH SLIJKHUIS

BIRDsessions is our musical playground for artists, musicians and curious ears. A place where you never quite know what’s going to happen, where new music takes shape, new bands come together, new friendships begin and new sounds are discovered.

Every week, we put the spotlight on a different act from Rotterdam’s jazz scene and beyond. Come listen, come play, meet new people or simply see where the music takes you.

This week: Deborah Slijkhuis 18 November

Some music isn't just something you listen to; it's something you feel. Deborah Slijkhuis is a musician, composer and producer from Zwolle, creating music that comes straight from the heart. With a background in classical piano, bass and vocals, she builds her own sound through layered compositions, rich arrangements and deeply personal storytelling.

Her music doesn't fit neatly into one genre. At times, it feels like a film soundtrack; at others, it's intimate and stripped back. Always honest, layered and full of emotion.

Through albums like Phrases of Freedom, Rosa and Soul Searching, Deborah explores themes of freedom, family and self-discovery. Her music invites you to slow down, look inward and maybe recognise a little of yourself along the way.

On November 18, she'll bring that world to BIRDsessions. Come listen, let the music get to you and see what it brings up.

See you at BIRD!
