BIRD proudly presents Collier Plays Coltrane: a special evening with saxophonist, composer, and creative force Isaiah Collier. Featuring an inspiring talk and a live concert, this event celebrates the centennial of John Coltrane, one of the most influential innovators in jazz history.

Described by DownBeat Magazine as “The Next Sax Giant” and “a saxophonist who has transcended the realm of prodigy,” Isaiah Collier is one of the most compelling voices of his generation. Emerging from Chicago's vibrant creative music scene, he has built an impressive career as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist, and educator. In addition to leading his own projects, he has collaborated with artists including Angel Bat Dawid’s Brotherhood, Chance the Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III, and Junius Paul.

With his band The Chosen Few, Collier released the critically acclaimed album Cosmic Transitions, which received a five-star review from DownBeat and was featured on numerous year-end best-of lists. The album was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on John Coltrane’s birthday, using some of the same analogue equipment that captured A Love Supreme.

During Collier Plays Coltrane, Isaiah Collier explores the musical and spiritual legacy of John Coltrane. The talk will be moderated by Andrew Makkinga, presenter, broadcaster, and longtime interviewer and host at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Known for his ability to make complex ideas accessible without sacrificing depth, Makkinga will guide the conversation through the musical, spiritual, and social themes that continue to define Coltrane’s enduring influence.
