Isaiah Collier – Collier Plays Coltrane
Talk & Concert | Saturday 21 November
BIRD is proud to present Collier Plays Coltrane, a special event featuring acclaimed saxophonist, composer and creative visionary Isaiah Collier. Through an inspiring talk and a powerful live performance, we celebrate 100 years since the birth of John Coltrane, one of the most influential figures in jazz history.
Named “The Next Sax Giant” by DownBeat Magazine, Isaiah Collier continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Emerging from Chicago’s vibrant creative scene, the multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist and educator has built a remarkable reputation through his own projects as well as collaborations with Angel Bat Dawid’s Brotherhood, Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III, Junius Paul and many others.
His latest album with The Chosen Few, Cosmic Transitions, received a five-star review from DownBeat and earned multiple Album of the Year mentions. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on Coltrane’s birthday, using some of the same analog equipment from the original A Love Supreme sessions, the album pays deep respect to jazz tradition while boldly looking forward.
For Collier Plays Coltrane, Isaiah Collier explores the musical and spiritual legacy of John Coltrane through conversation and performance. Expect insight, energy and a live show where heritage meets innovation. Deep roots, cosmic sounds and future-facing jazz.
Tickets are available for the concert only or as a full pass including both the talk and concert.
