Black Soil Live Cinema: Re-Score, The Burial of Kojo
Peter Somuah ft. Latanya Alberto & MiDi KwaKwa
Presented by Black Soil Film Festival, LantarenVenster, House of Knowledge, Architects in Music (AIM) & BIRD.
Film meets live music. One story, a whole new sound.
For Black Soil Live Cinema, The Burial of Kojo (2018), the impressive feature film debut of Ghanaian filmmaker and musician Blitz Bazawule, gets a whole new musical dimension. Trumpeter and composer Peter Somuah has created a live score especially for this screening, joined by vocalists Latanya Alberto and MiDi KwaKwa.
About the film
Young Esi sets out to find her father after he disappears during an expedition to a gold mine. What unfolds is a story where family, dreams and spirituality intertwine. Set against the landscapes of Ghana, the film moves between reality and dreams, brought to life through striking, unforgettable imagery.
The film, reimagined.
During this Live Cinema Re-Score, image and sound enter into a live dialogue. Jazz, soul, gospel, highlife and West African rhythms give the film a whole new sonic landscape. Peter Somuah brings together his Ghanaian roots and contemporary jazz with Latanya Alberto’s warm, poetic neo-soul and MiDi KwaKwa’s Afro-inspired alternative R&B.
Forget the standard film screening. This is a live audiovisual experience where music and image meet, challenge each other and create new layers of meaning.
A collaboration between Black Soil Film Festival, LantarenVenster, House of Knowledge, Architects in Music (AIM) and BIRD, bringing together film, musical curation and live performance.
Please note: This event takes place at LantarenVenster, not BIRD.
This is a seated film concert with unreserved seating.
