15 Years of BIRD Celebration

As part of our 15 Years of BIRD celebration, we're proud to welcome back Steam Down.

Since emerging from London's thriving jazz scene in 2017, Steam Down has grown from a weekly jam session into an internationally acclaimed collective known for its explosive blend of jazz, afrobeat, hip-hop, funk and improvisation. From sold-out shows at Ronnie Scott's and Blue Note New York to performances at Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz Festival and SXSW, they've built a reputation for creating unforgettable live experiences where musicians and audiences become part of the same energy.

Steam Down opened the very first edition of BIRD's Building Blocks community gatherings, and we're excited to welcome them back to Rotterdam for this special anniversary night featuring a clinic, a live show and an open jamsession.

Together with our partners House of Knowledge and OSHI, we celebrate 15 years of BIRD by bringing artists, audiences and communities together around the shared language of music.

Clinic: The Art of Jamming

What makes a music scene truly inclusive? What role does improvisation play in artistic development? And what can a jam session teach us about the cultural future of a city?

During The Art of Jamming, Steam Down shares the philosophy behind their world-renowned weekly sessions. Through conversation, exchange and musical interaction, musicians get a rare opportunity to meet the collective up close, ask questions, share experiences and ultimately step on stage together.

Steam Down live + Open jamsession

After the clinic, Steam Down takes the stage for a full live show.

Expect deep grooves, improvisation and the collective energy that has made them one of the UK's most exciting live acts.

Following the concert, the stage opens for a special jamsession. Musicians are invited to join in, connect and create together in a space where spontaneity, collaboration and community come first.
