BIRDsessions are back: our weekly musical playground where musicians, vocalists, producers, poets, dancers and music lovers come together. No two nights are ever the same, but the ingredients always stay the same: good music, unexpected encounters, spontaneous jams and that unmistakable BIRD vibe.

A new season also means a new host. This autumn, trombonist Lezaam Beets takes over the Autumn Residency. No stranger to BIRD, Lezaam has been a regular at BIRDsessions for years and also took the stage this year as part of The Nest. Now, it’s time for his next chapter.

Lezaam moved to Amsterdam in 2021 to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and has been building an impressive résumé ever since. He has played with New Cool Collective, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the Dutch Youth Jazz Orchestra, and has brought his own music to stages including Super-Sonic Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz. At the heart of his playing are space, connection and personal growth.

That same vision is at the core of his residency.

His goal? To make BIRDsessions more than just a jam session. A creative hub where musicians, singers, rappers, poets, dancers and other creatives meet, exchange ideas and spark new collaborations. A place where Rotterdam and Amsterdam come together, experienced players meet conservatory students, and musicians end up on stage together who might never have crossed paths otherwise.

Every week, Lezaam brings a new theme to the session, puts together a new band and hosts the jam. Expect new faces, unexpected combinations and, above all, plenty of space to make music together.

This week: 9 September, Welcome to My World

This week, we’re bringing different musical worlds together: from original compositions to tracks we wouldn’t normally think to play together. Expect unexpected combinations, musical clashes and plenty of room to experiment, challenge each other and create something new.

Everyone is welcome to join the jam. Bring your instrument, step onto the stage and show us what your musical world has to offer.
