BIRDsessions is a musical playground for artists, musicians and curious ears. A place where you never quite know what will happen next, where new music is created, new bands take shape, new friendships are made and new sounds are discovered. Every week, BIRD opens the stage to a different act from the vibrant Rotterdam jazz scene and beyond. Come to listen, come to play, come to meet people, or simply come see where the music takes us.

This week: Gabriel Cassaro e sua Oficina

This week, we welcome A Oficina, the modern jazz quintet led by bassist and composer Gabriel Cassaro.

Rooted in Gabriel’s Brazilian heritage, A Oficina brings together contemporary jazz and Brazilian music, drawing inspiration from artists such as Brad Mehldau and Milton Nascimento. The group’s repertoire moves between original compositions and fresh reinterpretations of classic Brazilian repertoire, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted and open to improvisation and discovery.

In 2026, A Oficina was selected as a finalist for both the Erasmus Jazz Prize and the Laren Jazz Prize. The quintet has recently performed at LantarenVenster in Rotterdam and Contra Amsterdam, and now brings their music to the BIRDsessions stage.

After the featured set, the stage opens up for the BIRD Open Jam. Bring your instrument, join the session, meet new musicians, or just stay for the music.
