Cumbia, Afrobeat and a hint of disco: The Mauskovic Dance Band effortlessly mixes these into an extremely catchy sound that’s completely their own. With all of these different influences, you might expect the band to have to cross oceans for their gig in Rotterdam. Think again: founder Nicola Mauskovic and his members are playing a home match!

Nicola, however, can definitely call himself a citizen of the world: he toured many countries with Jacco Gardner, Turkish-Dutch psych-rock formation Altin Gün, and the revival of legendary Zambian band W.I.T.C.H. Underground cumbia producer Juan Hundred joined the formation as drummer after hearing the band’s first recordings. They’ve now had shows at Lowlands and ADE, and their first EP has been released as well. Nicola thinks this is all well and good, as long as they can continue to make “crazy decisions without interference.”
