New Jazz Underground live at BIRD

New Jazz Underground is one of the most exciting new voices in jazz today. The New York based trio of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros and TJ Reddick was praised by Christian McBride at the 2025 Newport Jazz Festival as “one of the hottest new groups in all of jazz right now”.

What started as sessions between three Juilliard students evolved into a tight musical brotherhood during the pandemic. From busking on New York streets and in city parks to viral living room performances that reached millions online, the group built its following from the ground up.

Their sound moves effortlessly between hard bop, hip hop and contemporary jazz. On releases like MF Doom Suite, Harlem to Havana and cook/swing/work/relax, they honour the tradition while pushing it somewhere new. Fresh, fearless and deeply rooted in groove.

New Jazz Underground has already performed at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland, as well as major festivals such as Newport, Monterey and Montreal. Following recent appearances in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the trio now brings its momentum to Rotterdam.
