Jessy Yasmeen: Salt & Soil Album Release

On Saturday 5 September, Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter and producer Jessy Yasmeen presents her new album Salt & Soil with a special release show at BIRD Rotterdam.

Jessy Yasmeen moves effortlessly between neo-soul, jazz, hip-hop and subtle Latin influences. With warm vocals, honest songwriting and a sound that transcends genres, she creates music that resonates, heals and connects. Her work is deeply shaped by her diverse heritage, blending Venezuelan, Surinamese, Chinese and Dutch roots into a distinctive musical identity.

Following the success of her multi-million streaming EP Leap of Faith, Jessy now unveils Salt & Soil, a deeply personal album that unfolds as a spiritual journey in two chapters.

Salt explores a season of searching. Chasing what does not satisfy, returning to empty wells and confronting the silence of the wilderness. Musically, this chapter leans into stripped-back arrangements, moving from jazz-driven drums to boom bap-inspired textures that feel raw, rhythmic and intimate. Soil marks the transition towards encounter, renewal and growth. Here, the music opens into warmer arrangements, layered harmonies and organic percussion infused with Latin influences, creating a sound that feels grounded, spacious and alive.

Incorporating live elements such as congas, flute and the Chinese guzheng, Jessy Yasmeen crafts a rich sonic landscape where tradition and experimentation meet. For this special album release concert, she will be joined by an extended ensemble featuring drums, percussion, double bass, keys, guitar, violin, flute, trumpet and backing vocals, bringing the full depth of Salt & Soil to life on stage.

Jessy's music has received support from 3voor12, NPO Radio 2 and BBC Radio. She has performed across Europe and beyond, from London to Cuba, earned the Rotterdam Music Award Export Prize and was selected for Popronde 2024.
