In a time when everything screams for attention, the Danish duo Bremer/McCoy does exactly the opposite. With more than 400,000 monthly listeners, they have been building their own soft universe for years. No rush, no filter, just deep sounds and genuine connection. Music that doesn't call out, but invites you. To listen. To feel. On Wednesday 10 September, they will be on the stage of LantarenVenster.
Their sixth album Kosmos was released on David Byrne's legendary Luaka Bop label. No big statements, no unnecessary embellishments. Kosmos is a space where everything can slow down. Where you can drift away from the everyday.
Bremer/McCoy originally started in the reggae corner, but they did not confine themselves to genres. Their sound is now a breathing blend of jazz, dub, and neoclassical. Some tracks on Kosmos had been on the shelf for fifteen years, others emerged in the moment, pure, unpolished, honest. Their approach is intuitive. No fixed route, no strict plan. Just listening, tuning in, moving along. As Jonathan Bremer himself says: “Only when you let go of the ego, space is created for what truly wants to be heard.”
Live, their music feels like a campfire. You sit there, watch the flames, remain silent, yet understand each other. Meditative, warm, with a melancholic undertone that lingers.
