BIRDsessions: MÁXIMO presents PANGEA
This week we open the BIRDsession with the Máximo Trio, a group that pushes musical boundaries. Portuguese pianist Máximo, who combines his classical training with a love for jazz and electronics, joins drummer Joppe Van Noten and bassist Jan Honnef.
With their latest album PANGEA, the trio brings a fresh, contemporary approach to jazz, in which seasons, electronic influences, and worldly sounds come together. Máximo and his band members have already made an impression at major festivals in Portugal, and now it's time for Rotterdam.
After their show, the jam session begins, and it's your turn!
Line-up
Piano, composition - Máximo Francisco
Bass - Jan Honnef
Drums - Joppe Van Noten
Session host - Thijmen Molema
About the project:
PANGEA, the supercontinent, serves as a metaphor for the necessity of a united and collective society. In the fight against climate change, the project focuses on an alternative musical approach, integrating electronic elements, voices, and samples into a classic jazz trio. The album, composed over the course of a year, reflects the four seasons and offers a musical translation of the contrasts and moods that the earth grants us.
