In "In conversation with" you can read an interview with one of our employees, this time it's Romy's turn. She is the junior programmer (international club nights) at BIRD and club coordinator.

Who are you and how did you end up at BIRD?

My name is Romy Kirindongo and I am 23 years old. My passion for (club) events started when I was 16 years old. In 2020, I did my summer internship at BIRD until Nina asked if I wanted to work at BIRD. Without hesitation, I accepted the offer to work as an assistant event manager and thus became Nina's right hand.

We were at the peak of Covid-19, where organising events was not allowed to a certain extent, but at BIRD we never stood still.

From seated silent discos 1.5 metres apart to the Tasty Walk in Rotterdam, everything was possible at BIRD. When clubs were allowed to reopen in March 2022, I was shining behind the bar again every weekend, and my love for the club grew even more.

At the end of 2022, Nina asked me if I wanted to take on the role of club coordinator... and again, without hesitation, I accepted the offer. Since then, I have been responsible for the (international) club programming with an amazing team by my side. In addition, together with 3 other BIRDies, I organise the club night FEEL, where everyone can and may be themselves.

What does BIRD mean to you?

BIRD to me is a place that fits exactly how I want to go out. A place that feels like coming home, a place that is warm, a place I can always return to. Every weekend I am amazed by the number of loyal and returning visitors and the positive feedback we receive about the programming.

BIRD is also a place for me to learn and gain knowledge about different aspects within the music world. Here, my great thanks to Phil, who shares his extensive music knowledge with me every week!

A special memory at BIRD.

On the first Saturday of the year, BIRD organises Bad Habits, Good Intentions. A night where all BIRD's club parties come together and bring their own resident DJs. That night, I realised how proud I am of BIRD's club programming and how grateful I am for the collaborations we have. An abundance of the best club nights in Rotterdam!

Who is your favourite artist that has ever performed at BIRD?

Choosing a favourite artist is difficult, as so many great and talented DJs have performed at BIRD. If I had to choose, it would be Jungle. 750 people dancing during his set, the vibe was charming, and everyone was having a great time! Besides the big international DJs that BIRD programmes, club parties have also hosted some of my favourite DJs like Rudy Lima, Blaize, and Jael.

Finally, what is your favourite dish on the menu and which one is worth tasting?

The pizza Bella is my go-to food at BIRD.
