After a powerful and well-received show last year, trumpeter and producer Takuya Kuroda returns to BIRD Rotterdam on Friday 14 November 2025 as part of his European tour promoting his latest album, Everyday!
Born in Kobe and based in Brooklyn, this musician is known for his unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, and neo-soul. A style he has mastered in detail and continues to innovate. His latest album, Everyday, builds upon the success of Midnight Crisp (2022), which was hailed as a "future classic" by PopMatters. Everyday delves deeper into groovy, melodic, and soulful territories, featuring warm Rhodes textures, thoughtful production, and that signature Kuroda vibe.
Reflecting on his creative process, Kuroda shared, "The only way to make the music that I want to make is to work hard, every day." This dedication is evident in his approach to production, where he emphasizes the importance of groove and the human element in music creation. "I make a beat and I replace so many notes, just sampling myself, that's the whole point of saving money and time [by] replacing the kicks, bass, hi-hats, maybe I put in the spirit, put in the human element into the track, at the same time keeping the coolness of that bumpy, strong electric side of it," he explained.
With nearly 30 years in music and over two decades in the U.S., Kuroda has collaborated with artists like DJ Premier, Akoya Afrobeat, and has released records on renowned labels such as Blue Note and Concord. Despite his impressive career, his approach remains grounded: building, playing, and refining every single day.
Everyday is anything but ordinary. It's music that lives, breathes, and grooves. Live, it translates into a show that is as sophisticated as it is funky, where the lines between jazz, soul, and beats blur, and the energy fills the entire room.
