Straight from Dakar: Groovy Female Hip Hop
In collaboration with BIRD, North Sea Round Town & V11. This concert takes place at V11!
This summer, a powerful wave of female hip hop from Senegal brings new energy to Rotterdam. On July 10th, three leading female rappers will take the stage at V11 during North Sea Round Town 2025, for their long-awaited Dutch premiere.
Meet:
Oumy: singer, rapper, and winner of the African Award for Best Female Rapper 2024
Sister LB: mixes traditional Senegalese melodies with hip hop and positive black soul
Mina La Voilée: combines rap, vocals, and calabash in a compelling trio
These artists are touring West Africa and Southern Europe, and have already been featured by The Guardian and BBC. With a sound that effortlessly blends African roots with Western pop, they deliver not only danceable beats but also urgent stories about women's rights, assault, and violence.
Musical support by:
DJ Nina: Kora Award-nominated DJ (Dakar)
Ibou Calebasse: percussionist, known from Black Panther (Dakar)
Deep Dose: rapper (Dakar)
