Michael Mayo
On March 14, American singer Michael Mayo returns to Rotterdam! Mayo inherited his musical talent from his parents: his father, Scott Mayo, was a saxophonist for Earth, Wind & Fire, and his mother, Valerie Pinkston, performed as a backing vocalist alongside legends like Diana Ross, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston. With his phenomenal voice, he captures the hearts of jazz and neo-soul enthusiasts.
Raised in Los Angeles and trained at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute, where he studied under legends such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Mayo has developed into one of the most versatile voices of his generation. Now a seasoned performer, Mayo has graced iconic venues and festivals, including the White House, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and our very own North Sea Jazz in 2022. He also left an indelible impression during his previous performance at BIRD. His collaborations with artists like Jacob Collier, Kneebody, Gretchen Parlato, and Becca Stevens highlight his broad musical range and finesse. This time, he returns to the Netherlands with new material. Following his debut album Bones, produced by Eli Wolf (known for working with Norah Jones, Al Green, and The Roots), Mayo is set to release his highly anticipated new album Fly this fall. Get ready for an evening where Michael Mayo takes you on a musical journey that transcends genres and touches your soul. Don’t miss it!
