Jembaa Groove Live at BIRD Rotterdam – March 28

On March 28, BIRD Rotterdam will host the Berlin-based collective Jembaa Groove for a night of energetic grooves and Afro beats. This unique band, led by vocalist and percussion legend Eric Owusu and bassist/producer Yannick Nolting, has built an impressive international reputation over the years. Following the release of their debut album Susuma in 2022, they garnered massive support from international media outlets, including KEXP, BBC 6, Gilles Peterson, and Soulection.

Now back with their second studio album, Ye Ankasa/We Ourselves, Jembaa Groove is ready to share their evolving sound with the world. Inspired by 1970s Ghanaian Highlife, they offer a contemporary fusion of Highlife, Jazz, and Soul, enriched with influences that go beyond mimicking the greats who inspired them.

The band comprises former members of legendary acts such as Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, and Pat Thomas, giving Jembaa Groove a distinctive and ever-evolving sound.
