On Friday 30 November, BIRD welcomes Charif Megarbane , the Beirut-born musical shapeshifter whose sound moves as freely as he does. Over 100 releases deep (and counting), Megarbane blends worlds in a way only he can: from Beirut to Nairobi, Paris to Lisbon, London to who knows where next.
With a true DIY spirit and a genre-bending approach, Megarbane coined his own style: “Lebrary music”, a colorful blend of 60s Italian library music, Middle Eastern psychedelia, highlife, jazz and hip-hop breaks. Warm, cinematic, and wildly unpredictable.
His critically-acclaimed 2023 album Marzipan (out via Habibi Funk) marked a turning point for the label, its first contemporary release. That was followed by Hamra/Red (2024), and most recently Hawalat (2025), described by Bandcamp as “a rollicking slab of Lebanese jazz & funk built around the notion of exile.” The album features a global cast of collaborators including Sahra Gure, LNDFK, Dana McWayne, FloFilz, and a stunning orchestral arrangement by Sven Wunder.
After a sold-out European tour with Lebanese legend Rogér Fakhr, Megarbane returns to the stage, this time with this band, bringing his groove-laden sound to Rotterdam for the very first time.
Expect deep grooves, rich arrangements, and a musical journey that spans continents, cultures, and crates.
