Over the coming weeks, our sessions will be hosted by none other than MAIN, one of the most versatile artists in the city. For years, he’s been a familiar face at BIRD as an MC, rapper, host and musician. Now he’s stepping into a new role within the nest. The theme of his residency? Generations. Drawing from the experiences of those who came before, blending in inspiration from what’s ahead, MAIN creates moments that feel rooted in the present yet timeless.

His program is a musical journey across genres and generations: from hip hop, jazz and funk to live performance, acting and experimental sounds. It’s a meeting place for different worlds; a space where freedom and expression take the lead, and where music is celebrated as a source of connection, energy and inspiration.

Generations is a celebration of music, creativity and timeless moments; an open invitation to listen, explore and experience.

In this session:

Tonight, Jens Meijer opens the jam session at BIRD with a band that’s locked in from the start. Meijer is a drummer who knows how to set things in motion: strong groove, a clear personal sound, and always fully tuned in to what’s happening around him. Fresh, direct, and never playing it safe. No surprise he’s been tipped as one of the drummers to watch.

He leads the band from behind the kit, open, rhythmic, and leaving plenty of room to play. It’s all about listening, responding, and pushing each other.

Kika Sprangers brings melody and color on saxophone, Jesse Schilderink adds a rougher, more unpredictable edge. Philip Granly lets the piano breathe and bend, while Thomas Pol holds it all together on bass, driving the music forward.

No polite jazz, no fixed routes; just playing together and seeing where it lands.
