He was considered ‘NYC’s secret musical weapon’ for a long time, but BIGYUKI has now done so many collaborations and projects, the secret has been out for a while. He regularly works with hip hop artists like Talib Kweli and Matisyahu, and he contributed his groovy sound to the long-anticipated return of A Tribe Called Quest (We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service) and J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only. The keyboard virtuoso, originally from Japan, was classically schooled in Boston and now lives in the Big Apple.

BIGYUKI takes an exciting leap to the future by using elements from jazz, hip hop, soul, rock, classical and electronic music in his compositions. He’s constantly pushing the ever-changing limits of (jazz) music with his unique mix of styles and inspirations. His fellow artists like Q-Tip, Bilal, Marcus Strickland and Mark Guiliana have also started noticing this.

His extensive musical vocabulary feeds his capacity for creation. One of those creations: his debut Reaching for Chiron, a record full of groovy soundscapes, heavy beats and cheerful melodies.

Live, he turns every stage into his personal playground, supported by a drummer and a guitar-player. It’s hard to believe just three people could produce such a solid sound. You gotta come see it to believe it!
