LIVE@BIRD

LIVE@BIRD

Live@BIRD Foundation is the organization responsible for programming and producing the cultural program and talent development projects at BIRD. It works closely with BIRD BV, the owner of the BIRD venue, which through continuous investment in facilities, sound, and lighting has established one of the best-equipped clubs in the Netherlands. BIRD BV operates the hospitality services, business and private rentals, and the club itself, while also contributing significantly to the programming by covering part of the venue costs for Live@BIRD Foundation’s activities, as well as supporting BIRD’s overall marketing and communications.
BIRD was founded in 2011 as a stage for Black music genres, responding to the lack of attention these genres received in other cultural institutions in the city. With jazz and hip-hop as its flagbearers and diversity deeply embedded in both its organization and its audience, BIRD has, twelve years later, grown into an internationally respected venue. Today, BIRD is a key player in Rotterdam’s cultural sector and urban nightlife. With a unique artistic profile, BIRD remains faithful to cultural heritage, creates opportunities for emerging artists and organizers, and appeals to a broad and diverse audience.
BIRD is the stage for Black live music in Rotterdam and the Netherlands. This has been the guiding principle of our artistic vision since its founding. Groove-based genres - particularly jazz, hip-hop, and Black electronic music (also known as blacktronica) form our foundation. BIRD aims to be a pioneering stage: relevant, innovative, and constantly evolving, while providing ample space for talented new creators, fostering artistic experimentation, and pursuing deeper artistic exploration. In doing so, BIRD seeks to offer Rotterdam’s broad and diverse audiences a vibrant and varied musical experience.
