Butcher Brown is like a throwback to the progressive jazz bands from the sixties and seventies. Their sound, inspired by hip hop and funk, is reminiscent of legends like Weather Report, early Earth, Wind & Fire and Zappa.

The band originates from the American underground scene of Richmond, Virginia, although it’s also shaped by the five musicians, who each have their own style and background. One thing is clear, though: all five band members grew up with hip hop and electronica.

The various band members collaborated with Nicholas Payton, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah and Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, and they recorded their record Camden Sessions in Mark Ronson’s studio in London. And on Sunday, April 5, Butcher Brown will climb the stage at BIRD!

Marcus Tenney: trumpet
DJ Harrison: keys
Andrew Jay Randazzo: bass
Morgan Burrs: guitar
Corey Fonville: drums
