Salami Rose Joe Louis is the stage name of the latest addition to Flying Lotus’ pioneering record label Brainfeeder. It’s a mouthful, but it perfectly encompasses the trippy productions of the Californian musician, whose everyday name is Lindsay Olsen. This up-and-coming talent will climb the BIRD stage on 2 November.

Last March, Olsen visited the Netherlands as part of The Cinematic Orchestra’s European tour. It wasn’t the first time she was acknowledged by her heroes: earlier this year she toured the US with Toro Y Moi. She’s currently visiting dozens of American stages with Flying Lotus.

Zdenka 2080, Olsen’s first album released through Brainfeeder, paints a dystopian future in which the earth has been completely obliterated by corrupt governments and big business. That might sound dark and ominous, but Olsen’s dreamy voice and jazzy, electronic sounds make sure it never becomes too heavy. With her productions, Olsen always finds a balance between weird and serious, playful and melancholic. She’s as much inspired by Stereolab as by Herbie Hancock, and the comparison with FlyLo is – not completely surprisingly – never difficult to find.

This concert is part of the Rotterdam pop week.
