She doesn’t have a full-length record to her name yet, but 24-year-old Celeste has already been compared to greats like Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse and Etta James. On Saturday, April 25, this British soul talent will bring her smoky voice to BIRD.

The Jamaican-British Celeste was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Brighton with her mother when she was still young. Her father’s passing was the start of a dark period in her life, and music became her savior. She started a band with a few friends, and they mostly played classics from Sly and the Family Stone, The Clash and Ray Charles.

Celeste’s talent didn’t stay under the radar for long: she released an EP on Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday Records in 2017, and she was signed to Polydor shortly after that. She made a splash at Into the Great Wide Open with her intimate soul ballads earlier this year, and she sold out Paradiso’s small hall in Amsterdam. Before coming to BIRD, she’ll be touring multiple major European stages with Michael Kiwanuka, who’s signed to the same label!
